Metadata matters.

Metadata is the information used to label, identify and present your music and video content. It isn’t just artist name, track title, and ISRC - it includes details such as contributors, ISWC, IPI for each songwriter and publisher, lyrics, and so much more. Metadata is used by every DSP – if your metadata isn’t complete, then your music isn’t ready to share. 

Another important factor about metadata is that your royalties are dependent on it. Without the correct information attached to your music, you might not receive the proper credit or royalties for your work. Metadata helps direct money to everyone who contributed to the making of that music whenever the song is streamed, broadcasted, purchased, or licensed.

According to a 2019 article published in The Verge, “Metadata is the biggest little problem plaguing the music industry. It’s a crisis that has left, by some estimations, billions on the table unpaid to musicians.”
